He is an expert in the micromollusk field, working mainly with Atlantic samples.

He also is an author of the Encyclopedia of Texas Seashells, published by TAMU Press (Tunnell et al., 2010) and Texas Seashells, a Field Guide, published by TAMU Press (Tunnell et al., 2014).

In January 2018, he visited the UMDI-Sisal and helped to identified samples of Cayo Nuevo reef, Southern Gulf of Mexico, as well as participated in the course “Introducción a los moluscos marinos”
